Working with Categories

Categories are the power feature of HeadsUp.

When importing a CSV file, HeadsUp will detect the color you’ve assigned to each Cue and build a list of Categories based on the colors found in the CSV file. After importing, these Categories can be found on the left.

Name

Typically, you would use this to group cues together per department, ie Video, Light, Laser, Pyro, Dancers, Media Team, etc etc. To assign these, just click ‘New Category’ to rename it to the right name.

Color

If at this point you realize that you really don’t like that particular shade of green for laser after all, you can double click the color swatch itself to adjust it. When changing a Category color, all Cues in all currently loaded Cuelists will update their color in realtime.

Defaults

On the right of each category is a dropdown to quickly assign it to one of the Default Categories. Let’s say you’re used to using blue for video, but you received a CSV that has video in magenta. In that case, you can just change it to your Default using the dropdown. For more about Default Categories, check the Defaults entry of this manual.

To unlink a Category from its Default, just open the dropdown and click anywhere outside it. The Category will keep its current name and color, but won’t follow changes to the Default anymore.

Going deeper?

Categories are used to hide or show departments in the main Show view, or create tailored monitors in the Webclients tab.

Wait! I still have questions!
